Preparing for Natural Disasters
The Disaster Management Alliance in Costa Rica prepares communities and corporations for natural disasters. Successful projects have included bridge repair and reconstruction in Santa Cecilia, training and certification of an ambulance team, and an initiative to provide basic communications and disaster response equipment for community emergency committees established by the Alliance. In another important initiative, PADF worked with Del Oro, SA – a producer of juice concentrate – to ensure their employees would have access to basic necessities in the event of a natural disaster. More than 120 activities with eleven companies have directed benefited more than 13,000 people in 45 communities.
