In response to widespread damage caused by Hurricane Stan, Citigroup and PADF responded by rehabilitating two schools in La Aldea Los Pérez in San Juan Ostuncalco and in Pacajá Alto near Queztaltenango. In addition to gaining support and assistance from local and international NGOs such as Helps Foundation and the Carlos F. Novella Foundation as well as the Government of Japan, the project also directly involved community members who volunteered their labor for terrain preparation and construction of classrooms and received training on issues related to the environment, potable water, and the use of different construction materials.
