PADF Responds as Tropical Storm Emily Makes Landfall in Haiti

Washington, DC – As Tropical Storm Emily moves into Haiti, PADF is requesting urgent support in anticipation of the storm’s impact.

Tropical Storm Emily reached Haiti on Thursday, sustaining 40-mile per hour winds and heavy rain, prompting the Haitian government to urge residents to seek safe shelter. The National Hurricane Center has predicted torrential rains totaling up to 20 inches. The storm could force Haitians to endure hours of flash floods, mudslides, and consistent wind.

Haiti remains severely unprepared for another disaster. The storm raises major concern as hundreds of thousands of Haitians continue to reside in temporary shelters after the devastating earthquake. Flooding would bring further water contamination and depletion of resources.

PADF, in cooperation with Haitian emergency management authorities and on-the-ground partners, is working to identify the most pressing needs. Our relief and recovery work depends on the generosity of individuals and companies. Your donation will be a big help to affected Haitians.
