Supporting Girls Leadership
As in previous years, PADF is proud to work with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. to support the “Annual Girls Leadership Conference,” a training and networking event which exclusively targets Bahamian girls throughout New Providence and the Outer (Family) Islands. 2014’s 10th annual conference attracted hundreds of girls between the ages of 12 and 18. The Conference addresses diverse issues specific to girls through workshops that balance personal development and self-esteem building with a critical understanding of stereotypes, socialization and inequality.
The Yellow Roses Project is an evidence-based, two-pronged educational program that helps at-risk, underserved girls break the cycle of violence and abuse in their homes. The project began with a closed-door, small group session as a kick-off event that was followed by a weekly program concerning empowering the participants to make positive changes in her life and encourage her to achieve her own level of personal success.
