Most recently, together with local partners such as Global Conversations in the Bahamas and the Haiti STEM Alliance, we established “STEM for Oceans” camps in these two countries to enhance local curriculums with regional ocean conservation topics. During the camps, held after school or on the weekends, students ages 5-18 participate in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) hands-on activities, such as building robotic rovers, simulating the effect of tsunamis, and identifying ocean fauna. The program caters to vulnerable populations, including low-income communities, youth with disabilities, orphan children, youth from The Bahamas AIDS Foundation, and teen student mothers.
