Support to Women Entrepreneurs
Since 2012, Funding from Boeing has supported women’s microenterprises and has fostered entrepreneurship in Valparaíso, Chile. Thanks to funding from Boeing, during the first year of the project, 2012-2013, 47 women received targeted trainings on entrepreneurship and business management from PADF’s local partner, Acción Emprendedora. 28 women participated in the "Workshop for Entrepreneurs", designed for women with a business idea or a first-stage business. This workshop developed entrepreneurial, leadership, and knowledge to identify business opportunities, develop business plans and be prepared to manage all accounting, production and commercial issues.
Additionally, 19 women participated in the in-depth course on "Microenterprise Management" that focused on accounting, marketing, human and legal business resources. Participants in this course were required to have an active business. Finally, the top fifteen students out of both courses received additional support in the form of one-on-sessions based on their business potential, attendance and final grades. The courses help participants to create strong bonds with each other and many participate in local networks of women entrepreneurs to exchange ideas, share experiences and provide support.
Building upon the successes of the first year of the project, Boeing has committed to supporting the project for an additional year. In 2014, the project will again offer the "Workshop for Entrepreneurs" and "Microenterprise Management" courses to 45 women entrepreneurs. Furthermore, 40 women will participate in digital literacy courses with Acción Emprendedora that will teach technology skills, including the design of flyers, brochures and other marketing tools and the use of social networks, which will help them to better market their services and products.
