Youth Engagement Services (YES) Program
PADF is carrying out the Youth Engagement Services Project (YES), a program that is targeting 18 to 24-year old youths who have limited opportunities in order to support youth-initiated micro and small businesses that increase access to jobs and encourage entrepreneurship in Belize City.
The program, funded by the U.S. Embassy in Belize, will fill a gap in available youth services and complement ongoing activities by providing youth from marginal areas the essential elements of technical training and business advisory services so they can succeed in the labor market.
Phase I of the program will allow youth to complete a tailored training in entrepreneurship through the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE). Depending on the track chosen, the program will teach participants how to start their own business, including the development of business plans, or enhance their employability through work readiness and life skills methodologies.
Phase II will create opportunities for participants to seek self-employment through modest seed funding in the form of matching grants for entrepreneurship initiatives. In addition, the program will facilitate promotion and hiring events and other services to match trained youth with employers in sectors such as business outsourcing processes, tourism and hospitality.
The program is focusing on the following neighborhoods of Belize City: St. Martin de Porres, Port Loyola, George Street, Mayflower, and Yarborough.
