Raising Awareness of Trafficking in Persons in Honduras

To mark International Women’s Day on March 8th, PADF’s “Camino Seguro” (Safe Passage) project distributed awareness materials about trafficking in persons at a fair in the Distrito Central, Francisco Morazán, Honduras.

Mirna, a young returning migrant, received a brochure and recalled her and her 15-year-old son’s experience on the migration route, where a coyote tried to convince her to allow her son to marry his daughter in exchange for assistance.

“I want to teach other people about what they may experience on the migration route. This information will help me explain to my relatives the risks they might encounter. The coyotes use nice words and propose things to abuse and take advantage of people. Please give me plenty of brochures!”
