Migration was one of the primary topics on the agenda as leaders from across the Western Hemisphere met in Los Angeles for the IX Summit of the Americas. To build on this moment of regional dialogue and bring together high-level representatives of government, international organizations, civil society, and academia, the Organization of American States (OAS) Department of Social Inclusion, the Pan American Development Foundation (PADF), United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), International Organization for Migration (IOM), International Labor Organization (ILO), Migration Policy Institute (MPI), World Refugee and Migration Council (WRMC), Open Society Foundations, and Emerson Collective organized a two-panel side event. They discussed opportunities to strengthen regional governance of migration and protection across the Americas, highlighted the importance of addressing the root causes of displacement, and engaged a wide network of stakeholders, including local organizations and the private sector.
