Project

Small businesses are essential to Haiti's economic development. However, they often have difficulty accessing financing, which limits their ability to grow and thrive.

Leveraging Effective Applications of Direct Investments (LEAD) is a USAID project that aims to attract investments in small- and medium-sized enterprises based in Haiti, as well as increase the development impact of remittances.

To facilitate access to capital, LEAD provides grants to businesses and offers technical assistance to help them implement their business plans and strengthen their operations. Strong businesses create employment and provide economic security, which will lead to long-term economic growth for Haiti. To date LEAD businesses have created more than 14,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Remittances

LEAD works with the Haitian Diaspora to increase the development impact of remittances flowing into the country. Through our partners, LEAD has launched a survey and a series of roadshows to engage the Diaspora and use their input to develop innovative remittance models for Haiti.
